"An animal is not a gift. Do not adopt on impulse," warns the Famalicão City Hall

17-12-2021
Having a pet in the family is a fantastic experience, especially when there are children in the household! Animals are synonymous of play, joy, loyalty and unconditional friendship. However, the decision to adopt or acquire a four-legged friend must be well thought out and planned, it cannot be an impulse of the moment. Therefore, the Town Hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão and the CROA are launching an awareness campaign for a responsible and conscious adoption of pets, in order to avoid impulsive decisions, so common this Christmas season.

Under the slogan, "A pet is not a gift. Don't adopt on impulse", the campaign urges people to reflect before taking an animal home. These are lives that deserve our respect and that, besides the happiness they generate, also require responsibility and dedication.
In this sense, offering an animal to a friend or relative, as if it were a Christmas present, without first being sure that they are prepared to assume that responsibility, is inadvisable. The adoption or acquisition of pets "on impulse" is very risky and often contributes to an increase in cases of abandonment and return of animals to the pound.
Having a pet is not only a privilege, but also a great responsibility.
