The text presented is the result of a work developed over three years, "for which I have obtained invaluable contributions from institutions and individuals who contributed immeasurably to the realization of this study", says Luzia Pinto da Silva in the previous note of the book. "This is the book that, by its nature and scope, will allow a different look with new perspectives that impose on the East Valley, the result of a serious and thorough investigation around the processes and plumbing works of the East River and construction of the Irrigation Canals Nine a unique agricultural hydraulics project/system designed by military engineer Custódio José Gomes de Vilas Boas" highlights Manuel Augusto de Araújo.
