ARCA - Associação Recreativa e Cultural de Antas was the brightest star on the big night of the Marchas Antoninas de Vila Nova de Famalicão, with nearly 100 marchers from the association winning over the parade judges. With a total of 90 points, the Antas march also won the prizes for "Best Choreography", "Best Wardrobe" and "Best Music".
In second place was the São Martinho de Brufe Cultural and Sports Association, with 82 points, which was also voted the "Most Popular March". In third place was the São Pedro de Riba de Ave Cultural and Recreational Association, with 71 points, which also won the prize for "Best Lyrics".
The prize for "Best Bows" went to LACS - Associação Cultural São Salvador da Lagoa.
The mayor, Mário Passos, was there from the first minute - on the streets and then in the stands at the Paços do Concelho. The mayor spoke of "a memorable night", the result of "the effort, dedication, drive and professionalism" of the more than 1,200 marchers who, for months, have been preparing in detail for the parade that marks St Anthony's night in the municipality of Famalicense.
"The atmosphere throughout the city is incredible. They're being great Antoninas," he added, congratulating and thanking all those involved not only in the Marches, but in every moment of the festive programme.
The euphoria and enthusiasm of the public, who filled the streets of the city centre and the Town Hall, brought even more sparkle and charm to what is the highlight of Famalicão's Antoninas Festivities.
The jury for the marches was made up of a group of independent and qualified personalities from outside the municipality, with experience in assessing the different criteria that were analysed.
The Antoninas Festivities end this Thursday, June 13, with the day dedicated to religious festivities in honour of Saint Anthony, a municipal holiday in Famalicão. First with the Solemn Mass and the distribution of St Anthony's Bread, starting at 10.30, and then with the Solemn Procession, starting at 17.00. In the evening, there will be a grand closing show, with a concert by Buba Espinho, starting at 10pm, in Devesa Park (by the lake) and a fireworks display with a wide variety of pyrotechnic effects in Devesa.
