Over the next three school years, Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council will channel a total of more than 13 million euros to ensure school meals at all levels of education, from pre-school to secondary school.
The opening of the international public tender for the purchase of meals for the network of educational establishments was approved at the last meeting of the municipal executive. In total, around 1.5 million meals will be served each year.
"We are committed to promoting healthy eating and balanced, quality meals that meet the nutritional needs of our children and young people," says Mário Passos.
On this subject, it should also be noted that the Town Hall has been promoting awareness-raising activities among the school community to promote healthy consumption habits, avoiding food waste and monitoring the school meals process, from checking the products, storage and sanitisation to the cooking and serving process.
Mayor Mário Passos has also been visiting the municipality's schools and having lunch with the pupils. "In addition to the team of nutritionists from the municipality who monitor and supervise the menus, I myself have been following up very closely, visiting the schools practically every week, not only to check the quality of the meals being served, but also to find out about the problems and challenges facing our schools."
The mayor also recalled the investment made "both in the canteens themselves and in the dining areas for the students", with small occasional interventions that "make a difference".
