In 1960, a young man called Robert Zimmerman left Duluth, Minnesota, and arrived in New York with the aim of meeting Woody Guthrie (1912-1967), his great idol, and establishing himself as a musician and songwriter. Robert impressed Guthrie and in 1962, under the name Bob Dylan, he released his first album, a mix of folk, blues and gospel. On 24th of July 1965, already famous and headlining the Newport Folk Festival (which had started in 1959 in Rhode Island), Dylan decided to play with an electric guitar, a controversial decision (and much criticised by some folk purists) that started a revolution in his career. Directed by James Mangold, this biopic is based on Elijah Wald's ‘Dylan Goes Electric!’ and follows Dylan's path from being a young unknown to becoming one of the most iconic singers and songwriters in the history of music. In addition to the eight Oscars for which it is nominated, ‘A Complete Unknown’ has been nominated for several awards, including the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild and the Critics Choice Awards.
