The Famalicão municipality and the Famalicão Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People (CPCJ) are once again marking the ‘Month for the Prevention of Child Abuse’ in April.
The initiative, marked by the launch of the ‘Cria(nças) com Carinho’ (Children with Love) campaign, aims to sensitise the community to the importance of the full and harmonious well-being and development of children and to raise awareness of their role in preventing the mistreatment of children and young people.
The programme includes various actions to raise awareness among the school public. On April 7, at 9h30, with the children from the ATL at the Centro Social de Calendário, and on April 14, at the same time, with the children from the ATL at Casa do Povo de Nine. On 10 and 17 of April, the little ones will put on their uniforms and take to the streets of the city for another ‘Operation STOP’ against child abuse, in an awareness-raising campaign organised in partnership with the National Republican Guard and the Public Security Police.
On the evenings of 11, 12 and 13 of April, Famalicão's Town Hall will be lit up in blue to mark the ‘Month for the Prevention of Child Abuse’.
The awareness-raising activities end on the last day of the month with the construction of a Human Tie in the Town Hall at 11h30.
Famalicão's CPCJ ended 2024 with 293 active cases, mostly associated with domestic violence, exposure to behaviour that compromises the well-being and development of children/young people, neglect, physical abuse and school absenteeism.
It should be remembered that the Child and Youth Protection Commissions are official non-judicial institutions with functional autonomy that aim to promote the rights of children and young people and prevent or put an end to situations that may affect their safety, health, training, education or integral development.
