This Thursday, 16 May, the municipality of Famalicão signed a pact with 26 other institutions and companies in the municipality to implement training actions to provide the area with more digital skills.
The initiative aims to promote the (re)qualification of digital skills among residents and/or employed and unemployed people in the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, enabling them to meet the challenges of the current and future labour market, foster the integration of digital technologies in local companies by training and updating their employees, and stimulate the creation of a dynamic and innovative digital ecosystem in the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, boosting economic and social development.
This programme aims to implement training actions on digital skills, from the most basic and initial training to the development of actions that promote new knowledge on artificial intelligence, promoting the qualification of digital skills among the population, training them for the challenges of the labour market and for the integration of digital technologies in companies.
The municipality will make a team of employees available so that it can work with companies to define training needs, tailor the training offer and promote qualifying actions in line with those needs, retraining internal human resources or promoting actions for skills in areas that need to be hired.
In the business world there is no doubt about "the importance of training in these areas for the future, taking as an example the challenges of artificial intelligence and how we are going to apply the tool in the day-to-day running of companies," points out Vítor Freitas, director of Leica.
In this context, the Digital Skills Pact, drawn up by the municipality in partnership with IEFP, CESAE Digital, ACIF, IPCA, CESPU, CITEVE and almost two dozen companies in the municipality, will be a programme that results from a prior consultation of companies' needs.
"It's a good example of the commitment of these organisations to the area, which in an articulated way are investing in the area of training, which today is fundamental for the county's companies, which are incorporating more and more technology, research and development into what they produce," said Mayor Mário Passos.
The mayor also stressed that the initiative is the fulfilment of municipal policies to promote qualifications and lifelong learning, creating and extending qualification opportunities to boost competitiveness, productivity and talent, driving economic and social development.
