Vitorino is between 7 and 9 months old. A fatal diagnosis shows him [and shows us] that death really is a personal matter, and that we're all going to have to deal with it. Vitorino is an ordinary man in a suit and tie who goes in search of those last few months. As in José Saramago's book, Intermittencies of Death, in which death bows before a Bach suite, Vitorino invites us to bow down to beauty. After all, what would our death be like if we knew how long we had left to live?
