More than 44,000 vehicles had passed through Avenida Marechal Humberto Delgado in the centre of Famalicão by 5pm on Monday. By the same time, more than 6,000 people had crossed one of the pedestrian crossings near the Rotários roundabout. Last December, almost 74 million euros were spent in Famalicão on electronic payment transactions (SIBS).
These are just some of the figures that can be consulted on the Famalicão Observatory, a territorial management tool developed by the Famalicão local authority and presented this Monday in the presence of the Secretary of State for Administrative Modernisation and Digitalisation, Alberto Rodrigues da Silva.
It is a platform developed as part of the B-Smart Famalicão project. It is a tool for getting to know the territory, but also the activities of the Town Hall and the public and private dynamics of the municipality, promoting transparency and allowing citizens, associations and companies to use the data to support their activities, with systematised information on different areas and from different perspectives.
From the point of view of municipal management, this tool is also important, as the mayor explained.
‘It gives us access to data and information that allows us to improve efficiency and support the development of more appropriate and adjusted public policies, promoting transparency and the implementation of measures and policies so that people benefit more quickly from what we do,’ said Mário Passos.
The platform works with and makes available territorial data and open data, seeking to be at the forefront of the use of data to support decision-making, not only for municipal government action, but also for citizens, institutions and companies. ‘It will help us all to do more and better,’ said the mayor.
The Secretary of State for Administrative Modernisation and Digitalisation, Alberto Rodrigues da Silva, praised the work of the Famalicão municipality, pointing to it as an example.
The availability of this Observatory ‘is a very important and promising step in the field of administration and digitalisation’ which is in line with the National Strategy for Smart Territories, which aims to ‘turn data into action, making life easier for people and businesses through data, in efficient and sustainable management of the territory’.
The platform brings together up-to-date and systematised information from thousands of data points, such as demographics, the economy, education, waste management and many others, and shares information from other national and European statistical platforms.
The platform can be consulted on the Famalicão Your Place app or via the https://b-smart.famalicao.pt/ portal.
