All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is an epic and moving documentary about the life of artist and activist Nan Goldin and her attempts to hold pharmaceutical giant Purdue Pharma, owned by the Sackler family, accountable for the opioid epidemic. Directed by 2014 Best Documentary Oscar-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras, the film jumps back and forth between Goldin's past and present and her legendary art exhibition on HIV: Witness: Against Our Vanishing, which was censored by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1989. The story focuses mainly on the creation of P.A.I.N (Prescription Addiction Intervention Now), a group founded by Goldin, which seeks to hold accountable the different museums and art institutions that collaborated with the Sackler family in exchange for financial support. Featured at the centre of the film are some of Goldin's greatest works, such as The Ballad of Sexual Dependency; The Other Side; Sisters, Saints and Sibyls; and Memory Lost. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was the winner of this year's Golden Lion.
