Oppressive regimes have forced women to be interned in mental institutions. Branded insane for defying the rules, they were imprisoned, tortured and forgotten. Thousands died. Starting from these real lives, Anonymous is not a woman's name rescues silenced stories and confronts us with remnants of a time not so long ago. At the Santa Teresa mental hospital, two women who have been hospitalised struggle with their pain, doubts and shattered dreams. A labourer witnesses the unthinkable and questions her role. A mother waits. A doctor reduces patients to numbers. A mayor watches over the regime's oiled ‘machine’. In that dehumanised place, however, there is hope: can goodness overcome oppression? As these lives tangle together, another woman tells her story. Love and violence, madness and truth, fame and loneliness, violence and feminism. History is so close, dangerously close. Inside us.
