The photos of Alfredo Cunha were captured on the day of April 25, 1974. They are part of his photo collection and to perpetuate the “Thursday” that documents Portugal’s history, in hundreds in schoolbooks and books about this revolution. In 1974, Alfredo Cunha, was a young amateur photographer, with 20 years old, without knowing the impact that his work would cause over this last 50 years.

Biography:
Alfredo Cunha was born in 1953, in Celorico da Beira. In 1970, he started his professional career in stunt and commercial photography; next year, he premiered as a photojournalist at Notícias da Amadora newspaper. Collaborated with the newspapers O Século and O Século Ilustrado, with the magazine Vida Mundial, with the agency Noticiosa Portuguesa – ANOP and with the agencies Notícias de Portugal and Lusa. Was the official photographer of the Presidents Ramalho Eanes and Mário Soares, and receive the Order of Prince Henry. Between 1989 and 1997, he was the photo-editor of the newspaper Público and join the Edipresse group as a photographer and editor. In 2000, he started to work at the weekly magazine Focus. In 2002, he collaborated with Ana Sousa Dias at the TV programme Por Outro Lado, from RTP2. Between 2003 and 2009, he became photographer and editor of Jornal de Notícias. From 2010 and 2012, was director of photographer of Agência Global Imagens. Nowadays, he works as freelancer and develops multiple editorial projects.

From his career, the main highlights are April 25, 1974; the Portuguese decolonization in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste and Cape Verde, to PREC (Revolutionary Process in Course, 1974-1975); the fall of Nicolae Ceausescu, in Romania (1989) and the Iraq War (2003). Published multiple photography books such as: Raízes da Nossa Força (1972), Vidas Alheias (1975), Disparos (1976), Naquele Tempo (1995), O Melhor Café (1996), Porto de Mar (1998), 77 Fotografias e Um Retrato (1999), Cidade das Pontes (2001), Cuidado com as Crianças (2003), Cortina dos Dias (2012).
