In the dunes of Guincho beach, west of Lisbon, a pack of stray dogs uncover the corpse of a man, later identified as the body of an army officer wanted by the political police, from whose clutches he had escaped by fleeing the Elvas Fort in the company of two comrades opposed to the dictatorial regime, with the help of a mysterious woman.

A film adaptation of the novel by José Cardoso Pires, "The Ballad of Praia dos Cães", one of director José Fonseca e Costa's best works, is based on an ingenious script constructed as a police investigation, which surprises with its narrative effectiveness. Co-produced by Portugal and Spain, the film opens with a beautiful first image: a "travelling" on the beach to some dogs surrounding a corpse. A metaphorical image of the foray into the memory of the times and hardships of fascist Portugal.
