On 11 April 2025, at 6.30pm, the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation will open an exhibition entitled ‘Dreams and Metamorphoses: Paula Rego's Surrealism’, dedicated to the artist Paula Rego, in partnership with the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego. It is curated by Marlene Oliveira, Artistic Director of the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, Perfecto E. Cuadrado, Coordinator of the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation's Portuguese Surrealism Centre, and Catarina Alfaro, Coordinator of Programming and Conservation at Casa das Histórias Paula Rego.

Paula Rego is one of Portugal's most prominent artists, internationally recognised for the expression and narrative of her works. Her art tackles themes such as the status of women, politics, literature and even popular culture, using a unique visual language that combines the dreamlike universe with reality. His works have a strong surrealist expression, combining the unconscious, the bizarre and imaginable beings with real facts, the latter often associated with the title itself.

In 2025, it will be the 90th anniversary of her birth and this exhibition will be a tribute to the artist, helping to present a comprehensive view of her career, valuing her work and encouraging debate on the issues present in her work. The exhibition, in partnership with the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego (CHPR), will present a selection of paintings, drawings and engravings representing various phases of the artist's career, with a special focus on surrealism. It will also include documentation (photographs, manuscripts, interviews and videos). It will be on loan from various organisations, private and public collections.
