Tyvian Jones is a Welsh pseudo-romance writer who lives in Venice with the wife he neglects and mistreats, the Italian Francesca Ferrara. Jones, in turn, is seduced and humiliated by Eve, a femme fatale whose whims and greed give her a taste of her own poison, like a mermaid luring sailors to their deaths. An erotic thriller inspired by James Hadley Chase's novel of the same name, Eve became a project of Jean-Luc Godard before becoming one of Joseph Losey's greatest works.
