The history of linen has been intertwined with the development of the textile industry and the lives of the people of the municipality of Guimarães since time immemorial. In this conference, we will try to follow the relationships and transformations that took place in the 19th and 20th centuries, with an impact on craft production that was closely linked to the existing factories. We try to identify their spatial distribution and get to know the people involved. We will try to understand how all these factors were decisive in the disappearance of a production that was once so important to the economy of the municipality of Guimarães.
