The mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão is touring the municipality's Family Health Units (USF).
Last week Mário Passos was in Calendário, at the São Miguel-o-Anjo USF, where he had the opportunity to meet the clinical staff and check out the current operation of this USF, which is about to receive new facilities.
After launching the public tender for the construction of the new facility in February, the municipal executive recently approved the award of the contract to Costeira in June.
At stake is an investment of 2.2 million euros, half of which is covered by the local authority and the rest co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
It should be remembered that the new USF facilities in São Miguel-o-Anjo will be built on land ceded by the local authority to ARS Norte, located in Rua Francisco António dos Reis, in Calendário, and will include spaces dedicated to Women's and Children's Health and General Healthcare. According to the tender specifications, the execution period for this contract is 480 days and the project includes medical and nursing offices, an administrative area, a support area, waiting rooms, sanitary facilities, among other spaces.
Mário Passos, who was also accompanied at the meeting by the councillor for Health, Sofia Fernandes, and the president of the Médio Ave Local Health Unit, António Barbosa, recalled the various efforts that the local authority has made to improve the municipality's healthcare network.
"Efforts that have allowed us to put very important interventions in place so that Famalicão can also take significant steps forward in terms of health. Steps that I'm sure will translate into more and better services for the people of Famalicão," explained the mayor, referring to other interventions and applications that are being launched for the construction, renovation and equipping of health centres, such as the construction of the new USFs in Joane, Nine and Ruivães and the upgrading of the Famalicão Health Centre and the Pneumological Diagnostic Centre.
