UNICEF has awarded Vila Nova de Famalicão the title of 'Child Friendly City'. This distinction reflects
"the municipality's commitment and investment in the local implementation of the Child Friendly Cities programme", noted the United Nations agency.
"The concern for our children is very much present in the municipality's daily actions," said the mayor, Mário Passos.
Over the last few years, the municipality has created a broad development strategy to ensure that all famalicenses, regardless of age, social status and cultural and religious circumstances, have the same opportunities for growth. The municipality's commitment to the well-being of children is reflected in its participation in the Child Friendly Cities Programme and the development of the Local Action Plan, which aims to publicise the programmes and actions promoted by the municipality to guarantee the full development of the youngest and their rights.
"We are a truly child friendly territory," Mário Passos guaranteed. "Children are the adults of tomorrow and this is a commitment to our future," he added.
The Child Friendly Cities Programme, promoted by UNICEF, aims to contribute to the realisation of children's rights through the adoption of local policies focused on the well-being of the community and, above all, children. UNICEF - the United Nations Children's Fund - is the main humanitarian agency that promotes and defends the rights and well-being of children.
