Surma is inspired by silence to create her own universe of jazz songs, electronics and a multitude of influences, exploring paths that are not always obvious, but with a strong identity, her own phonetics, and creating unique moments that can take us from the Nordic fjords to cosmopolitan cities. Alongside the release of her debut album ‘Antwerpen’ in 2017, Surma has also accumulated numerous side projects - soundtracks, sound design, music for theatre and dance, collaborations with other musicians. The new album ‘alla’ is a no-holds-barred challenge, where she surrounds herself with various participants from a variety of musical genres in order to further expand and consolidate her very own universe. On stage, the album is presented in a trio format which also includes, in addition to Débora Umbelino, her accomplices João Hasselberg and Pedro Melo Alves, surprising the audience with the freshness of a renewed, intense and free Surma, leading the audience to discover her new aesthetic. Opening the concert, Surma, in response to a commission from the Casa das Artes de Famalicão, will premiere ‘The Andalusian Dog’ (1929, 18 min), a film by Luis Buñuel and co-written by Salvador Dalí: A man sharpens a razor blade before cutting out the eye of a young, impassive woman. A cyclist falls. A woman and a man observe an androgyne and a severed hand, then caress each other. After a year, another man arrives and orders the first man out of bed. It all ends on a beach where the woman meets a third man.
