Hatzin is a Mexican boy who has always lived with his grandmother. One day, he is forced to go and collect the remains of his father, whom he only knew from photographs, whose body was found in a mass grave in the middle of the desert. On the journey back, he meets Mario, a man who seems to bear a great resemblance to the one in the photographs. Confused, he realises that he is his father and tries to get closer to him. Alongside this stranger, Hatzin gets to know the intricacies of crime and violence. Selected to compete at the Venice Film Festival - where director Lorenzo Vigas had already won the Golden Lion with the film "At a Distance" (2015) - this dramatic film features the young non-actor Hatzín Navarrete in the lead role, opposite Hernán Mendoza, Elián Gonzalez and Cristina Zulueta. "La Caja" is part of a trilogy about the relationship in Latin America with the figure of the absent father, which began with the short film "Los Elefantes Nunca Olvidan" (2004) and continued with "From Afar".
