After losing his mother in a fire, Mahito, a young boy of 11, is forced to leave the city of Tokyo to return to the village where he grew up. He settles with his father in an old mansion on an immense estate where he meets a heron who gradually becomes his guide and helps him in his discoveries and questions to understand the world around him and unravel the mysteries of life. This is a Studio Ghibli production, an animated drama signed by Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki - the celebrated author of Princess Mononoke (1997), My Neighbour Totoro (1998), Spirited Away (2001, winner of an Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2003), Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) and Ponyo (2008). The Boy and the Heron won the Oscar for Best Animated Film.
