Written in 1959, “O Cábula” (Skiver) is considered the first Portuguese children’s opera. Composed by Fernando Corrêa de Oliveira, composer from Oporto, whose hundredth birth is being celebrated, it serves as the motto for its re-presentation and recording, together with the world premiere of O rouxinol de Sérgio Azevedo, a mini-opera (or pocket opera) written on the tale The nightingale and the emperor of China by Hans Christian Andersen, and also specifically designed to be enjoyed and interpreted by children. Therefore, ARTAVE students gather under the baton of Jan Wierzba, in a great party of first discoveries. For many, this will be their first foray into the world of opera!
Programme:
O Cábula (1959) - Fernando Corrêa de Oliveira, music and libretto
The nightingale (2021, world premiere) - Sérgio Azevedo, music on short story by Hans Christian Andersen
