At the Palace Hotel, an extraordinary castle with a Gothic atmosphere in the Swiss Alps, the obscenely rich from all over the world converge for the New Year's Eve party in 2000. On 31 December, Hansueli, the dedicated manager, inspects the staff with almost military zeal. A horde of waiters, bellboys, chefs and receptionists prepare to fulfil the demands of the most extravagant guests. As the dawn of the new millennium approaches, the atmosphere is tense. Rumours are flying about the Millennium Bug and the financial chaos it will bring with it. Beneath the civilised surface, chaos awaits and the stories of each character give life to an absurd, black and provocative comedy.
