Ways of St. James

Good way!

To describe the Ways of Saint James in Vila Nova de Famalicão is to mention a route that has been followed since time immemorial, and which in Roman times was honoured as the main itinerary. This means that this route (16th) was part of the main road network of the Roman Empire and that anyone travelling to Braga from Lisbon or Porto would certainly have to take it.

It is therefore not surprising that when the cult of Saint James and pilgrimages to Compostela emerged, this was the route followed by many pilgrims.  This is evidenced by a series of small temples and toponyms intrinsically associated with the beginnings of Christianity and the search for purification and salvation so typical of that time.

Nowadays it is not one of our favourite routes, because the road has disappeared, giving way to modernity, but in these 20 kilometres that connect Lousado to Portela, there are plenty of nooks and crannies worthy of interest and enjoyment that will naturally captivate you.
