Famalicão author Jorge Reis Sá, winner of the Inês de Castro Foundation Literary Prize 2024, Famalicense João Paulo Braga and journalist Fátima Campos Ferreira are some of the guests at the Famalicão Book Market, which returns to Praça D. Maria II in the city centre next week, from 23 to 27 April.
The initiative is part of the ‘Vai à Vila’ Urban Markets organised by the municipality and brings books and reading to the public space through the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library.
From Wednesday to Sunday, Praça D. Maria II will be transformed into an open-air library and bookshop with numerous works available for display and sale.
The event will feature a complementary programme of cultural and literary entertainment with presentations and book launches, meetings with writers, storytelling sessions, theatre shows and poetry concerts for all age groups.
In the year in which Camilo Castelo Branco's bicentenary is celebrated, the Book Market will host the presentation of ‘Camilo Castelo Branco, Viagens na Minha Terra’, by João Paulo Braga, on the 25 April bank holiday, at 21h00.
The following day, the 26th, at 3pm, will see the launch of the book ‘Famalicão - Portugal Collection’, by Jorge Reis-Sá, winner of the 2024 edition of the Inês de Castro Foundation Literary Prize. The work, dedicated to the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, is the 10th volume of the Portugal Collection, which, municipality by municipality, island by island and writer by writer, puts the whole country into one book.
RTP journalist Fátima Campos Ferreira, author of the book ‘Ramalho Eanes - Palavra Que Conta’, will be talking to Famalicenses on 27 April at 15h00.
The Book Market will also promote storytelling sessions for the youngest, with reading mediator Marta Ribeiro. ‘Recordar Os Contos Tradicionais’ and “Em Português Nos [Des]entendemos” are the tales chosen for the 23rd and 24th of April, respectively, both at 14h30.
In addition, the Book Market will feature a children's theatre show, ‘As Conquistas de Abril - Uma História Para Pequenos e Graúdos’, by Ana Rita Janeiro, an artist, writer and composer. The play is scheduled for 25 April at 10h30.
It should be noted that the exhibitors taking part in the event represent the famalicense book and publishing market with the participation of Livraria Municipal, Casa de Camilo - Centro de Estudos, Livraria Fontenova, Livreiro Arlindo Moreira, Edições Húmus, Editora Centro Atlântico, Editorial Novembro and Fundação Cupertino de Miranda.
The Book Market can be visited from 10h00 to 19h00 on 23, 24 and 27 April, and from 10h00 to 22h00 on 25 and 26 April.
