The school year ended with good news in Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The municipal executive led by Mário Passos will be putting in place, as of Monday, July 1st, a series of works to improve and expand the municipality's school park.
The total volume of investment is around 3 million euros and the announcement was made by the Mayor himself who, in the last few days, joined a series of end-of-year celebrations promoted by the educational community to explain some of the planned interventions.
Mário Passos visited Gavião, Mogege, Landim, Arnoso Santa Eulália, Pousada de Saramagos, Requião and Castelões.
Among the various projects promoted by the municipality are the expansion of the Requião kindergarten, the Gavião EB1 and the Boca do Monte EB1 in Mogege, the refurbishment of the Castelões EB1 and the refurbishment and expansion of the Quintão EB in Arnoso Santa Eulália.
In addition to this, there are other small projects, such as the construction of a covered playground and storage area at EB1 in Landim, the construction of a metal roof and waterproofing at EB Pousada de Saramagos, the installation of air conditioning systems at EB Requião, Centro Escolar de Ribeirão and Centro Escolar Luís de Camões, the paving of the playing fields at EB23 in Pedome and Bernardino Machado and the replacement of synthetic turf in various school buildings.
"These are needs that we've identified, many of them in the tour we've been taking around the municipality's schools, and now the time has come to get down to work and carry out these interventions which, I'm sure, will lead to improved conditions for students, teachers and non-teaching staff," said Mário Passos.
Requalification and extension of Joane´s High School goes out to public tender
As far as education is concerned, last week brought another piece of good news. Last Thursday, 27 June, the municipal executive approved the opening of the international public tender for the refurbishment and extension of the Padre Benjamim Salgado High School in Joane, with a base price of 19.3 million euros (excluding VAT).
It should be remembered that Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council recently had its application to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) approved to carry out the work.
According to the project, as well as work on the existing buildings and the construction of new spaces, the streets leading to the school grounds will also be remodelled.
Built in the early 1980s, the Padre Benjamim Salgado High School currently consists of three teaching blocks (A, B and C), a sports block and an administrative block.
In the existing teaching blocks, changes will be made to the interior spaces in order to provide the school with a greater and more varied range of training options. A building will be built next to Block C, called the Teaching Workshop. Common to all three blocks, alterations will also be made to allow interconnection with a new teaching block (D) and the replacement of the existing roof.
The Administrative Block will undergo more extensive work, with the construction of a new auditorium, a new library and the remodelling and reorganisation of existing spaces in order to adapt the building to the school's new reality. In addition to these new spaces, the multipurpose area, kitchen and canteen will also be reorganised.
The existing sports block will be kept, but adapted into a new adjoining block that will mainly consist of changing rooms, a gym and support rooms.
Increasing the building's energy performance and a sustainable intervention were, according to the description, the main factors taken into account when developing the project.
