"Longing for a delayed son, King João V is warned by Friar António de S. José.
The royal wish will trigger an epic, Herculean effort by thousands of labourers across the country. United by Love, Blimunda and Baltasar join Bartolomeu de Gusmão and his dream of flying. The passarola, a flying machine, a mixture of boat and bird, is born from Bartolomeu's scientific knowledge, Baltasar's labour and Blimunda's powers, gathering human will (the "closed clouds"), which will feed the machine and make it fly. The Holy Spirit passed over the work on the Mafra Convent, the priests say and the people believe. Flying at that time, not being the work of God, could only be the work of the devil, and so the tragic end of the main characters is announced."
As part of a co-production between Casa das Artes / Teatro Narciso Ferreira and the Vila Nova de Famalicão municipality's "From Famalicão to the World" educational and cultural project, the play "Memorial do Convento" by José Saramago will be presented to 12th grade students in Vila Nova de Famalicão, by Momento Artistas Independentes, with a session for the general public. This project is part of a strategy of mediating audiences with the school community in the area, as a way of bringing them closer to the National Reading Plan, provoking an emotional impact with the work, so that it reaches everyone and so that the critical eye and the pleasure of art can be felt by everyone.
