The Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira, lawyer and political commentator Luís Marques Mendes, TMG administrator Isabel Furtado and scientist, professor and former Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education Elvira Fortunato are some of the guest speakers at the 5th Famalicão Made IN Economic Forum, which will be held on 22 October in Vila Nova de Famalicão, under the theme ‘Artificial Intelligence and Creativity. Can the copy surpass the original?’.
The initiative, scheduled for 2.30pm at Casa das Artes, is organised by the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão and Jornal de Notícias/TSF and will discuss issues related to artificial intelligence and how emerging technologies are transforming the business and economic landscape. Will artificial intelligence be able to help us break down and overcome barriers, revolve patterns and explore unknown territories? What are, or should be, the limits to the use of an instrument that, having already permeated our daily lives, seems to have unbridled power? Do we have a joyful or dangerous tool in our hands? Or both?
The opening speech will be given by the mayor, Mário Passos, and the director of Jornal de Notícias, Vitor Santos, before the Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira.
At 3pm, the philosopher and essayist Daniel Innerarity (recorded testimony), one of the world's most influential thinkers, and Luís Marques Mendes will speak.
At 3.45pm, time for the panel ‘Create, create, create. The Digital Transition is a locomotive’, moderated by Manuel Molinos, JN's digital director-general, and with interventions from Gil Sousa, co-founder of ESI-Robotics, Isabel Furtado, executive director of TMG, Elvira Fortunato, Full Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Lisbon, Pedro Santos, Vice-President of ACEPI (Economia Digital Portugal), and Luís Borges Gouveia, Full Professor at Fernando Pessoa University.
Famalicão City Council's Councillor for Economy and Innovation, Augusto Lima, will close the event.

It should also be noted that the initiative is part of the programme celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Famalicão Made IN municipal programme, launched in 2014 with the aim of boosting the municipality's economic performance, promoting its entrepreneurial genetics, attracting new investments and helping businesspeople and entrepreneurs to develop business projects.
The first decade of Made IN is being marked throughout this month of October with various associated initiatives.
The work of Famalicão Made IN was, in fact, one of the arguments that earned Vila Nova de Famalicão the title of European Entrepreneurial Region 2024.
