The Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão is going ahead with the refurbishment of the Urban Family Health Unit (USF) building, located on Avenida 25 de Abril, in an investment of over 3 million euros. The opening of the public tender for the contract was approved at the town council meeting on Thursday 21 November.
The construction of the current Famalicão Health Centre dates back to the early 1990s, so the work now being presented will allow the building to be adjusted to the new programmatic and functional requirements, creating new spaces and functions.
The contract includes work on both floors, improving infrastructure conditions and adapting the building to current energy standards.
‘These are important investments that will allow us to improve the facilities and, consequently, the service and provision of health care to the population,’ emphasised the Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos.
The mayor also pointed out that the local authority is already preparing the temporary premises where all the USF's services will operate during the works, in the old Boa Reguladora factory.
‘We are taking care of the transfer and preparing everything so that the USF professionals can continue to carry out their work and so that nothing is missing in the provision of care to users,’ said the mayor, adding that these preparatory works already represent a municipal investment of around 700,000 euros.
Mário Passos also said that the municipality will take advantage of the intervention in the USF to create a new car park with around 60 spaces, solving ‘a problem that is structural in that location’.
It should be remembered that on 1 January the municipality took over the management, maintenance and conservation of primary healthcare equipment. The work on the USF Urbana is the result of an application for funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
