The ‘VIII National Congress on Local History: Concepts, Practices and Challenges in Contemporary Times’ will take place on 15 and 16 November at the Casa das Artes and the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library. Those interested in taking part in the event should register by 8 of November.
Organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Universidade Nova de Lisboa in partnership with the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, the 8th edition of this congress will feature a panel exclusively dedicated to the history of the municipality of Famalicão and the presentation of around 50 papers by historians, teachers, researchers and other scholars from the region.
Registration for the congress is individual and free of charge and must be completed using the following form https://forms.gle/svoovxWwhyMNQhNM9 by 8 of November. The Vila Nova de Famalicão Training Centre accredits the event.
The congress starts on 15 of November at 9am in the small auditorium of the Casa das Artes. In the afternoon, the meeting takes place simultaneously in the auditorium of the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library. The following day, the event will take place only in the Municipal Library.
It should be remembered that the VIII Congress of Local History aims to accompany and stimulate the ongoing historiographical renewal, continuing the purposes and dynamics begun in 2017 in the first edition, providing a space for dissemination, sharing and questioning for all those dedicated to this branch of historiography, in permanent dialogue with national and international historiography. As in previous editions, the meeting aims to continue to be a privileged context for reflection on the concept, methodologies and practices of local history and as a space for exchanging experiences.
The meeting, hosted by the Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council as part of the educational and cultural project ‘From Famalicão to the World: Contributions from Local History’, is organised by the ‘History, Territories and Communities’ department (HTC - NOVA FCSH/CEF-UC), coordinated by Professor Maria Fernanda Rollo, and by the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC - NOVA FCSH/IN2PAST).
