Vila Nova de Famalicão has once again been recognised as a ‘Most Family Responsible’ municipality. The Observatory of Family Responsible Municipalities awards the title annually and this is the thirteenth time - twelfth in a row - that the municipality of Famalicão has been honoured.
The award is in recognition of the work the municipality has done in implementing policies and measures to support families throughout 2023, in the areas of Education, Housing, Transport, Health, Culture, Sport and Social Action.
The awarding of scholarships to university students, the creation of the Youth Talent Scholarships, support for rent and building work under the Casa Feliz municipal programme, the payment of federative registrations and respective insurance for the municipality's young athletes, the existence of a fourth tier of municipal social support in Education and the provision of nutrition and psychology consultations aimed at young people are some of the measures promoted by the municipality that explain the distinction awarded to Vila Nova de Famalicão.
It should be noted that the Family Responsible Municipalities Observatory is a project promoted by the Portuguese Association of Large Families, together with the Social Security Institute. This initiative aims to monitor, reward and publicise the best practices of Portuguese local authorities in terms of family responsibility.
