The best young dancers in the world and the best national Latin and standard dancers will be taking to the stage at Famalicão Dança. The 10th edition of the initiative takes place on 9 November at the Famalicão Municipal Pavilion and promises to be a night full of glamour and elegant choreography.
This year's competition includes the World Youth Championships in the Ten Dances, a prestigious event organised by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), in which 30 pairs of young dancers from 30 nationalities will compete in the five Latin dances and five standard dances.
The competition will also host the 6th event of the National Dance Sport Circuit in Latin and Standard, awarded by the Portuguese Dance Sport Federation (FPDD), with the expected participation of 150 pairs from various parts of the mainland and islands. This will be the last circuit competition of the season and is of great importance for those who want to make the 2025 national team. This event will determine the final results of the 2024 national circuit.
The presentation of the 10th edition of Famalicão Dança, a sporting initiative that has already put the city of Famalicão on the national and international dance map, took place on Tuesday 22nd at the Town Hall.
"Famalicão Dança is an event that fulfils several objectives, first and foremost the promotion of our territory through sport, as it projects Famalicão and, of course, through this, our economy and tourism,’ said Pedro Oliveira, Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council's Councillor for Sport. ‘With the professionalism and dedication of Gindança, in partnership with the Municipality, the IPDJ and the Sports Dance Federation, I believe we have all the conditions for this event to continue to evolve and make this 10th edition a memorable moment for sports dance in Portugal,’ adds the mayor.
‘The success of previous editions has motivated us to continue organising Famalicão Dança,’ says the president of Gindança, Anabela Gomes, who stresses the importance of being able to count on ‘great and good partners’ to continue ‘giving prominence to sports dance’.
‘The federation is proud to be here [in Famalicão] for the tenth time, with such an important event,’ commented the president of the Portuguese Sports Dance Federation, Marina Rodrigues, who was also present at the event's presentation. The federation's representative also pointed out that awarding the organisation of the international competition to the Famalicão association is nothing more than ‘recognition of its value’ in terms of organisational capacity and experience.
