The Municipality of Famalicão will make 25,000 euros available to support research grants through the Municipal Programme of Financial Support for Research Grants, promoted by Famalicão City Council and aimed at researchers and grant holders with ongoing research projects approved by official, national or international institutions, through the award of five research grant prizes worth 5,000 euros each.
The aims of the measure are to promote business innovation and the development of research and innovation activities for new products or processes that help industry and its development. The municipality also intends to support the creation and development of value, seeking to attract technology-based companies, encourage the transition - digital and climate -, promote science, knowledge and technology, and bring together the entities of the Research and Innovation System (ENESII) and companies in the area.
‘We have been working on implementing the municipal strategy ‘from MadeIN to CreatedIN’ with strong support for research and innovation into new products or processes that help industry and its development,’ said Mayor Mário Passos.
The mayor recalled that Famalicão has a diversified business fabric with a strong vocation for developing research and innovation, and that ‘the programme's primary objective is to encourage, retain and attract talent in the region, thereby fostering social cohesion and well-being’.
It should be remembered that in 2024, in the first year of awarding grants, five research projects were awarded, namely two at CITEVE, in the areas of digital tools for creativity and robotisation and automation. Two at Cooperativa Elétrica do Vale do Este, on the digitalisation of the energy ecosystem, and another at TecMeat - Centro de Competências do Agroalimentar para o setor das Carnes, with a project on valorisation, industrialisation and commercial innovation for the agri-food sector.
The deadline for submitting applications is between February 17 and April 15, and the closing date may be brought forward if the programme's budget allocation is reached.
Applications are available on the Famalicão MadeIN website, at www.famalicaomadein.pt, where the application form is available, as well as all the regulatory information on the programme. The measure is aimed at researchers and grant holders with ongoing research projects.
