The Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, visited the União de Freguesias de Famalicão e Calendário on Tuesday 5 February to continue his ‘Presidency of Proximity’ tour of the municipality.
‘Famalicão and Calendário are an example of what we're doing throughout the county, with sustained investments that have an impact on the population,’ said Mário Passos during his visit to the parish union.
Mário Passos visited the construction site of the S. Miguel-o-Anjo Family Health Unit, an investment subsidised by the PRR, totalling more than 2.1 million euros, which is part of what will be the future Pelhe Park, a green area of around 8 hectares next to the river Pelhe.
‘It's very important to feel supported as mayors and, in these visits, to show our concerns, which are those of the population, discussing the best solutions for the requests that come to us on a daily basis,’ said Mayor Estela Veloso, who accompanied the mayor throughout the afternoon.
Mário Passos also visited Bruma, a brand that has been on the market for over 70 years, a benchmark in the creation of taps that balance efficiency and design, reflected in over 25 product collections with customers all over the world.
The ‘Proximity Presidency’ tour began with lunch at EB 2,3 Júlio Brandão. ‘This interconnection between the municipality and the schools is important in order to get to know the educational community better,’ said Fedro Guimarães, coordinator of the school for which the municipality is working on an intervention project.
The itinerary is transversal and, once again, the mayor visited works in progress, such as the roundabout on Avenida dos Descobrimentos, or works that have already been completed, such as the paving of Rua S. Miguel-o-Anjo. ‘These are important investments that we are making and, through protocols with the parish councils, putting in place,’ added Mário Passos.
The mayor also visited the old school in Meães where the artistic and cultural project The Village is based, a studio dedicated to artistic production for musicians and artists from Famalicão. ‘It's important that they come here, it gives them a practical idea of what we do,’ said André Silvestre, the project's artistic director.
At the meeting with the associative movement, Mário Passos met historic institutions such as Famalicense Atlético Clube, Clube de Rugby, Banda de Música de Famalicão, Racho da Casa do Povo de Calendário and ACAFADO. ‘These are different institutions, all very active and with a strong presence in the area. From these meetings we always take ideas and ways to realise projects and strengthen collaboration,’ summarised the mayor.
After the União de Freguesias de Famalicão e Calendário, the ‘Proximity Presidency’ programme continues next week with a visit to the parish of Lousado.
