The Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, was in the parish of Gavião this Tuesday, 28 January, continuing the ‘Proximity Presidency’ itinerary.
Accompanied by the Mayor, António Emídio, Mário Passos' visit to Gavião began at the St John of God Home, run by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, in a meeting marked by close contact with the institution's users.
The economic dynamism of the parish was also highlighted, with a visit to two companies based in Gavião: Pankir, a company with almost 30 years in the deep-frozen pre-cooked products sector that bases its production on technologically advanced manufacturing processes, and Carplic, a carpentry company that offers personalised, high-quality solutions for different projects, from furniture to flooring and wood panelling.
‘They are examples of the economic diversity that exists in the municipality, with one common trait: the capacity for product and process innovation that allows them to be on the market as references in their field, in a sustained way and with a vision for growth,’ said Mário Passos.
With almost 4,000 inhabitants, Gavião, one of the parishes on the outskirts of the urban centre, has been growing. ‘We have been making various investments to keep up with the growth that has taken place in the parish,’ said the mayor, who yesterday also visited the streets of Bacelo, Picoto, 28 de Setembro and das Tulipas, which received paving works, pavements and a rainwater system. In addition to these interventions, sanitation works in Rua de Moledo, the widening of the D. Amélia roundabout and the children's playground in Praceta Silvério Freitas are other examples of work carried out this term.
During the visit to Gavião, future investments were also discussed. ‘We took the opportunity of this visit to point out other work we want to do, such as paving Gaveto do Guedes, Rua Central do Bairro and Rua da Agra, where a new playground is also being planned,’ said António Emídio.
Mário Passos' day in Gavião ended with the usual meeting with the associative movement. Among the many issues raised, the mayor pointed out the steps already taken by the municipality to reinforce the lighting in the school zone, as well as the intention to acquire land at the top of Rua dos Carvalhos to widen the street and improve circulation and safety conditions.
After Gavião, the ‘Proximity Presidency’ programme will continue next week with a visit to the Famalicão and Calendário Parish Councils.
