The Municipal Assembly of Vila Nova de Famalicão is meeting this Friday, February 21, in a decentralised ordinary session in the auditorium of Casa de Delães, on Avenida da Portela, starting at 21h00.
The president of the Municipal Assembly, João Nascimento, is talking about a measure designed to ‘bring citizens closer to the body where the decisions that mould the present and future of the municipality are made’.
João Nascimento also reveals his desire to expand this practice to other parishes in the municipality of Famalicense, ‘encouraging greater citizen participation, not only in the decentralised sessions in the parishes, but also in the sessions that normally take place in the Great Hall of the Municipal Assembly’.
The discussion and vote on the city council's proposal to delegate powers to the parishes of Avidos e Lagoa, Bairro, Carreira e Bente, Delães, Fradelos, Landim, Oliveira S. Mateus, Riba D`Ave, Vale S. Cosme Telhado e Portela, Vale S. Martinho, Vila Nova de Famalicão e Calendário and de Vilarinho das Cambas for the cleaning of declassified national roads and the discussion and vote on the report of the Eventual Commission for the Evaluation of Safety Problems in the Municipality are some of the items on the agenda for this Friday's Municipal Assembly meeting.
The mayor, Mário Passos, says that this decision contributes to a closer and more participatory local democracy.
It should be noted that the Vila Nova de Famalicão Municipal Assembly is the deliberative collegiate body of the municipality and the activity of its members is aimed at pursuing the interests of the municipality, promoting the well-being of the population, respecting the Constitution of the Republic, and complying with democratic legality.
