This Christmas, the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão is once again inviting godfathers and godmothers to fulfil the wishes of Famalicão's children from needy families, through the ‘A Christmas wish’ solidarity campaign. This is the fourth consecutive year that the initiative, part of the ‘Share+’ solidarity project, has been organised and promoted by Famalicão City Council's Social Solidarity department.
Through this initiative, citizens can sponsor a child up to the age of 12 and fulfil their Christmas wishes. Once registered, the godparents receive a letter from each child they sponsor and learn about the gift they want.
Famalicenses can ‘sponsor’ this initiative by registering via email at solidariedadesocial@famalicao.pt or by calling 252 320 940/252 320 900 until 25 November. Each child will be invited to write a letter to Father Christmas and mention their Christmas wish, which the godparents will try to fulfil.
On 15 December (Sunday), Father Christmas will distribute the presents to the children at a solidarity and cultural event in the Municipal Market Square.
It should be noted that, in 2023, the Christmas wishes of around 200 children with proven economic deprivation and living in the municipality, signposted by the municipality's Social Assistance and Monitoring Service, were fulfilled.
