Day by day, Vila Nova de Famalicão's first student residence, Vila, is taking shape in the city centre, in Praça D. Maria II. The space will be ready to welcome 91 university students and researchers next year.
‘With Vila, Famalicão is going to be an even more viable option for students to pursue higher education of excellence,’ said the mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, last Friday after visiting the building site.
The residence will serve the municipality's higher education and research institutions: CESPU, IPCA, Universidade do Minho, Universidade Lusíada, CITEVE and CeNTI. ‘The construction of the residence will bring even more young people to the city centre, giving it more life,’ said the mayor.
The space will have 53 rooms and studios - single, double and adapted for people with reduced mobility - two kitchens, a laundry room, technical area, garage, among other spaces.
The student residence is being built on the former premises of the municipal environmental services. The refurbishment and extension work represents an investment of around 5 million euros, financed by the National Plan for Accommodation in Higher Education (PNAES), supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), in partnership with the Erasmus+ Education and Training National Agency.
