The 10th Famalicão Dança took place on Saturday 9th November and once again brought together the best national and international dancers in the Latin and Standard categories. The Secretary of State attended the opening ceremony of the event, which saw the participation of more than 250 athletes, for Sport, Pedro Dias, and the Mayor, Mário Passos.
Pedro Dias praised the organisation of Gindança and the municipality of Famalicão. The government official believes that events like this help to ‘promote the practice of sport’. Pedro Dias also pointed to Famalicão as a ‘very active’ municipality, an example he would like to see replicated in the rest of the country's municipalities.
The Mayor, Mário Passos, recalled the work that the municipality has been doing in this direction, listing the various municipal sports programmes aimed at the entire population and the ongoing investments to improve the municipality's sports park.
This year, Famalicão Dança included the World Youth Championships in the Ten Dances, a prestigious event organised by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF). It also hosted the 6th event of the National Dance Sport Circuit in Latin and Standard, awarded by the Portuguese Dance Sport Federation (FPDD). This was the last circuit event of the season, with the results of the 2024 national circuit being determined.
The event has already put the city on the national and international Dance Sport map. In addition to the support of the Municipality, the Municipality of Famalicão and the Portuguese Sports and Youth Institute also supported the event organised by Gindança.
