The refurbishment of the Famalicão Health Centre building will go ahead, after the final report on the proposals and the award of the contract were approved at the municipal executive meeting last Thursday, February 20.
The Urban Family Health Unit (USF), located on Avenida 25 de Abril, involves an investment of 2.6 million euros, plus the investment already underway of around 700,000 euros for the temporary facilities for the health unit's services in the former Boa Reguladora factory.
‘We've made a significant effort to renovate and build health units in the municipality, taking advantage of funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, but above all, directing investment towards the remodelling and construction of buildings that guarantee users and professionals better conditions in the provision of health care,’ said Mayor Mário Passos.
The contract includes work on both floors, improving infrastructure conditions and adapting the building to current energy standards, which will allow the building to be adjusted to new programme and functional requirements, creating new spaces and functions.
As well as refurbishing and remodelling the Health Centre building, the municipality is also going ahead with the creation of a new car park with around 80 spaces, which will support the Health Unit, ‘solving a structural problem in that location’.
The work has a deadline of one year, and April has been set as the estimated date for work to begin, when all the health unit's services will be fully operational in the temporary facilities.
‘We're preparing for the transfer so that the health unit and its professionals can continue to provide care to users,’ said Mário Passos, noting that the transfer to the temporary facilities will take place without creating any constraints for users.
The mayor also recalled the various investments that are being made in the municipality in the health sector, ‘which are the result of our ability to attract investment within the framework of the PRR and our responsibility for the management, maintenance and conservation of primary health care equipment’, pointing out as examples the USF of São Miguel-o-Anjo and the USF of Joane - which are already under construction - to which will be added the projects for new units in Nine and Ruivães.
‘These are important investments that will allow us to improve the facilities and, consequently, the service and provision of healthcare to the population,’ said Mário Passos.
