The Secretary of State for National Defence, Ana Isabel Xavier, today surprised Gonçalo Santos, a young student from Famalicense, at the D. Sancho I Secondary School, by congratulating him on his authorship and promotion of the ‘Ser Militar’ project, which on 6 March brought together more than 1,000 students from the Famalicense school to learn about the activities of the Portuguese Armed Forces.
The initiative involved the students of D. Sancho I Secondary School in various interactive and dynamic activities on the potential of the Armed Forces as a training and career opportunity: flight simulator, activities inside and outside military vehicles; lectures and demonstrations on the various branches of the Armed Forces, information counters and clarification of doubts, interaction with military personnel, among others. The Portuguese Air Force’s North Recruitment Centre; the Portuguese Navy’s Recruitment Centre; the Portuguese Army’s Porto Recruitment Centre and Cavalry Regiment No. 6 attended the activity.
Ana Isabel Xavier expressed her admiration and gratitude for the activity promoted by the student from Famalicense, describing him as a ‘true ambassador for the Armed Forces’.
The project was also praised by the Mayor, Mário Passos, who this Wednesday had the opportunity to accompany the Secretary of State for National Defence on a visit to D. Sancho I Secondary School. ‘The proactivity of Gonçalo and all the young people involved in this initiative is very commendable,’ said the mayor.
