This week, Vila Nova de Famalicão Town Hall started work on an intervention to reinforce public lighting in some streets in the city centre.
The contract covers Rua Direita, Praça Manuel Sottomaior, Praça 9 de Abril, Rua Daniel dos Santos and Rua de Santo António and involves a municipal investment of more than 55 thousand euros.
In addition to the installation of new luminaires and the replacement of some existing lighting with LED technology, the intervention will also involve the refurbishment of old lamps, namely in Rua Direita and Praça Manuel Sottomaior.
The issue of public lighting has, moreover, been a topic addressed by traders in Famalicão's urban centre in the meetings that the mayor, Mário Passos, has promoted as part of the ‘Trade Route’.
‘Listening isn't enough. Above all, we need to take action to resolve the shortcomings and suggestions made by the traders and this intervention arises precisely from these conversations that I'm having every week as part of this route,’ says the mayor.
It should also be noted that the work in progress may cause some constraints in the circulation of vehicles and pedestrians, as well as the removal of some parking spaces on the arteries involved.
