It was in Bairro that the Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, decided to start a new cycle of visits to the municipality's parishes yesterday.
The mayor of Famalicão resumed his ‘Proximity Presidency’ tour in the company of the parish president, Rui Alves, during an afternoon of work in which, as well as visiting land, checking on investments and seeing work done, he tackled issues such as health, education, the economy and associations.
The visit to Bairro began with lunch at the parish kindergarten, following on from the tour of the schools.
‘Throughout this municipal term I've had the opportunity to be on the ground constantly, listening to people and analysing and prioritising the challenges facing each community. We want to maintain this dynamic of dialogue and cooperation with mayors, educational and social agents and entrepreneurs, so that territorial and social development is balanced and we can meet the needs and priorities of the population,’ Mário Passos stressed at the end of the day.
After the school lunch, Mário Passos also had the opportunity to learn about Electro Instaladora de Bairro, a 50-year-old company dedicated to making and assembling electrical panels, with customised and technologically advanced solutions, which are spread all over the country. ‘A good example of a company that is committed to innovation and modernisation in order to respond to the market, and which is part of the identity of the parish of Bairro,’ said the mayor.
The mayor of Famalicense also visited the works underway at the António Sampaio Leisure Park, specifically the refurbishment of the swimming pools, which received municipal support totalling 148,000 euros.
Mário Passos heard from the Mayor about some of the priorities and new investments to be made. ‘There are streets we've visited where we want to intervene and which are on our list of priorities,’ explained Rui Alves.
On the health front, there was also a visit to the Terras de Camilo Community Care Unit, part of the National Integrated Continued Care Network, with Mário Passos congratulating the unit's team on their work.
The day ended with an informal chat with the population and the parish's associative movement. Of the various interventions, many of them to thank the local authority for its support, the highlights were the Bairro Tennis Club's intention to install a roof on the pitch, the Scouts' intention to carry out work on the group's headquarters and the Bairro Football Club's intention to build a 7-a-side football pitch.
‘For me, local authority management only makes sense if we have this direct contact with people, eye to eye, to listen to their needs and concerns and from there to find the best solutions for the parishes,’ added the mayor.
It's worth remembering that last year alone, municipal investment in the parishes totalled more than 10 million euros, directed towards the realisation of various projects.
